I am sure you are aware of the current worldwide fear concerning the recent outbreak of swine flu in Mexico and the USA and the threat of it escalating into a pandemic. There appears to be the same level of fear attached to this recent virus as we had when Avian flu and the SARS problem existed in Asia a number of years ago.
If you do have a medical insurance plan then you may wish contact your insurer to determine what level of cover you have in the event of a pandemic. We are aware that a pandemic is a specific exclusion in some health policies.
We will continue to take advice from the relevant authorities but below are some simple courses of action you can take to prevent exposure to swine flu. Should you have any concerns about your own personal health you should go to your doctor as normal and do not worry as to whether treatment is covered by your international policy. It is.
To protect yourself, practice general preventive measures for influenza:
• Avoid close contact with people who appear unwell and who have fever and cough.
• Wash your hands with soap and water frequently and thoroughly.
• Practice good health habits including adequate sleep, eating nutritious food, and keeping physically active. |
PREMIER INTERNATIONAL CLIENTS:
We are therefore pleased to confirm that our international health insurance plans have no exclusion for pandemics; so treatment for swine flu is covered, regardless of whether the World Health Organization declares it a pandemic or not.
Best regards,
